ARC Conducts Online Information Literacy Program to Enhance Research Skills

In May, the Academic Resource Centre (ARC) of the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) organized a comprehensive five-day online information literacy program to strengthen the research skills of the university community. A total of 150 participants took part in the training, comprising 116 students and 34 staff members.

  The sessions focused on the effective use of major academic databases, including Emerald Insight, Britannica Academic, ScienceDirect, SCOPUS, and the ACM Digital Library. Participants were guided through the key features and search functionalities of each platform, empowering them to efficiently locate credible academic resources for their studies and research work.

  This initiative reflects ARC’s continuous commitment to promoting information literacy and ensuring that UTS students and staff have the necessary tools to succeed in academic research.

A Look Back at ARC in May 2025: A Month of Enriching Events

The month of May is buzzing with a variety of enriching and community-driven activities at the Academic Resource Centre (ARC). From literary discussions to life-saving workshops and health awareness campaigns, the ARC continues to be a vibrant hub of knowledge sharing and public engagement.

On 9 May 2025, UTS Publisher launched its Book Talk Series 1/2025 moderated by Dr. Fetylyana Nor Pazilah. The session featured the book Youthful Vision: Horizon World Unbound Volume 1 & 2, with editor Nur Atiqah Binti Zaini sharing insights into the creative and editorial process behind the work.

First Aider in Every Home (FAIEH) 2.0 Workshop

Health and safety took center stage on 16 May 2025 during the First Aider in Every Home (FAIEH) 2.0 Workshop, organized by the UTS MRCS Club in collaboration with Rejang Medical Centre. Participants received hands-on training in essential emergency response skills, including CPR, wound care, choking relief, and burn treatment.

Continuing the health theme, Sri Minyak hosted a Blood Donation Campaign on 17 May 2025 as part of the Health & Wellness Carnival held in conjunction with Sarawak Family Day at UTS. The event, located on the ARC’s ground floor, encouraged the community to contribute to a vital cause while promoting overall wellness.

FoodTech SciTalk

On 20 May 2025, the Food Technology Programme under the School of Engineering and Technology held its FoodTech SciTalk. Undergraduate students showcased their creativity and scientific knowledge through poster presentations and product demonstrations, offering a glimpse into the future of food innovation.

Throughout May, the Academic Resource Centre (ARC) has served as an active venue fostering academic growth, health education, and community interaction through a variety of events.

ARC Tours & visits

In May, the ARC hosted visitors from several organizations, including English Enhancement Programme (EEP) Students, Politeknik Mukah Sarawak, Acting Indonesia Consular – Bapak Musa Derek Sairwona and Church of God – New Zealand and China.
